We believe that through education it is possible to guarantee a better social, cultural and economic development of people. In this text, I leave a reflection for all business leaders: round off.
Last week, I announced that Burger King would have reached R$ 2 million raised for the Movimento Arredondar. Today, I decided to reflect and tell a little about the main reasons that make us support the cause of education.
We live in the largest country in South America and, at this moment, we face a period of great challenges and learning. More than ever, we need, as an industry and company, to foster the union between companies, initiatives and projects that reinforce the importance of support and support to others, in all spheres of society.
For years, Burger King has sought to support, globally, educational and social inclusion projects, such as the MCLamore Foundation, a non-profit organization that partners with other NGOs focused on scholarships, literacy and the creation of learning environments sustainable.
In Brazil, we are faced with a scenario in which - unfortunately - more than 23.3 million people live in a situation of social vulnerability. According to IBGE, 25% of the entire Brazilian population, made up of about 209.5 million people, do not have access to education. That is why we understood the need to do something and, more than that, to communicate so that more companies and people could understand the dimension of this data - and what it represents.
So, here in the country, we also decided to make a difference. Going in line with what we believe and defend, we signed a partnership between Burger King and the Movimento Arredondar, which started in April 2018, in favor of education. For people who don't know it yet, Arredondar is an NGO that joins large companies to support other NGOs, collecting microdonations through rounding the change.
This is one of the reasons that, two and a half years ago, in more than 600 Burger King's stores in Brazil, customers have the opportunity to round the total value of their purchases to the full number, for example, R$ 21,80 saw R$ 22.00. These cents collected are destined to organizations ed by the Movimento Arredondar project to guarantee assistance to people who live in a situation of social vulnerability. In 2019, we also started fundraising at Popeyes restaurants, today we are already in all open units.
Today, we are celebrating the milestone of 2 million raised for the Movimento Arredondar. With this amount, Burger King became the largest donor partner for the project. This value is the result of all the cents donated by our customers, which totals more than 11,420,000 acts of donation - about 547 donations per hour - and which are destined for 13 certified social organizations that work promoting quality education and social inclusion.
Among these organizations, I would like to mention a major project carried out by one of the NGOs that we have been able to support over the past few years: the Oca Escola Cultural, an institution that promotes the integral development of children and adolescents in the Aldeia de Carapicuíba Community, in São Paulo, through Brazilian art and culture.
With the support rounding by BK customers, the project directly impacted the routine of 540 students the NGO, through daily activities. Indirectly, more than 2,700 people were impacted by the actions and dialogues carried out by Oca in partner public schools.
Other organizations supported by our partnership with the Movimento Arredondar are: Acompar, AFESU, CENPEC, CPCD, Escola de Gente, Instituto Constelação, Instituto Criar, Instituto Ponte, Movimento Terra Livre, ITS Brasil, Projeto Uerê and Todos pela Educação.
We believe that through education it is possible to guarantee a better social, cultural and economic development of people. In this text, I leave a reflection for all business leaders: round off. With cents we can transform and promote a better future for thousands of people in Brazil. We know that we still have a lot to do, but we also see that we are on the right path.
